Mixed media depictions of translucent doves emerging from a shifting field of rainbow pattern as an expression of healing and hope. They are inspired by the imagery of Noah’s Ark- a prominent story in my religious upbringing. As a child, I resonated deeply with the miraculous story. I was inspired by Noah’s bravery and faith to build something different- even though everyone laughed at him. But as I grew older, I had my first crushes on girls and experienced gender dysphoria. I had hurtful experiences with misguided people that made me feel that the church- with all its beautiful imagery and ancient stories- was not a place I belonged. Years later, I have reclaimed my faith, but I still struggle with feelings of hurt from the rejection I experienced in the church. Part of the creative process was one of healing. As doves emerge from the rainbow they offer branches of olive- a token of peace and a reminder of the human potential to forgive- to wash away the old and begin again. mixed media 2024
